Mindee is the closest peer to Zerodoc — a developer-first document API with an EU base. Three things differ structurally: what it costs, what happens to your documents, and what privacy costs. Facts, with sources.

Zerodoc is a zero-retention Mindee alternative for UK and EU invoice extraction. It gives you 200 pages free every month, forever — Mindee gives a 14-day trial. Zerodoc paid plans start at £19 for 2,000 pages against Mindee’s €44 for roughly 500 credits: about 4× the volume for less money, billed in pages rather than credits. Zerodoc also never stores your documents.
The entry tiers side by side, then the full sheet. Mindee credits ≈ pages for standard extraction.
≈0.95p per page, fully used · 2.5p/page beyond the allowance
≈7.5p per credit (€0.088) at the minimum volume · €0.044/credit beyond
Mindee Starter shown at its minimum volume (6,000 credits/year ≈ 500/mo; larger volumes selectable) per mindee.com/pricing and docs.mindee.com, July 2026; pence equivalent at July 2026 exchange rates.
| Zerodoc | Mindee (July 2026) | Why it matters | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plans | |||
| Free tier | 200 pages/month, free forever — no card | 14-day trial (200 pages), then paid2 | Dev and staging environments keep working after week two. |
| Entry tier | £19/mo — 2,000 pages (Starter) | €44/mo (annual billing) at the minimum volume of 6,000 credits/year, ≈500/mo1 | Four times the pages for roughly half the price at entry. |
| Mid tier | £89/mo — 10,000 pages (Pro) | €116/mo (annual billing) — a feature tier; credit volume bought separately1 | Our tiers change the volume; theirs also gate features like residency. |
| High tier | £299/mo — 40,000 pages (Business) | Enterprise — custom pricing, 500,000+ credits/year2 | A published price is a price you can plan against. |
| Unit economics | |||
| Overage | £0.025/page, flat on every plan | €0.044/credit, flat1 | Neither punishes bursts — parity on structure, ours is cheaper. |
| Billing unit | Pages. One number, no multipliers | Credits, bought in annual volumes2 | Units you can predict are units you can budget. |
| Effective entry cost / page | ≈0.95p per page (Starter, fully used) | ≈€0.088 (≈7.5p) per credit at the minimum volume1 | The number that actually goes in your spreadsheet. |
Effective entry cost assumes the allowance is fully used; Mindee’s per-credit rate falls at larger annual volumes. Both figures footnote their assumptions — always check the current pricing pages.

|---|---|---|---|
| What happens to your documents | |||
| Retention after the response | None — processed in RAM, buffer zeroed. No storage code path exists | Extracted data stored 12h by default, configurable 1–24h3 | Retention is breach surface. A window that never opens cannot leak. |
| Zero retention as the default | The only mode, on every plan | “Delete when fetched” is an opt-in toggle, disabled by default3 | Defaults are what actually ships to production. |
| Async processing window | Same guarantee — nothing is stored on any path | Their DPA permits up to 7 days for async jobs4 | A DPIA has to assume the DPA ceiling, not the dashboard setting. |
| Original file written to disk | Never | Never, per their docs3 | Genuine parity — credit where it is due. |
| Residency & proof | |||
| EU data residency | Every plan, including free | Localization is a Pro-tier feature; the default zone is “No Preference” — EU or US2 | Residency you have to configure is residency you might not have. |
| Machine-readable proof | Every response carries retention: { stored: false } | Policy-based; no per-response retention attestation | Auditors accept evidence faster than promises. |
| Your data & their platform | |||
| Confidence scores | Every plan, every field, always on | All plans — opt-in per model or call, null unless activated2 | Both fine here; theirs needs switching on before you can automate with it. |
| Your data & their R&D | Nothing is retained, so there is nothing to reuse | Shared models not trained on your data; DPA permits pseudonymized reuse for R&D4 | Read the DPA line before procurement does. |

Choose Mindee if you need many document types, custom-trained models, or platform features like RAG today. Choose Zerodoc if your documents are sensitive enough that “stored for hours by default” is a problem, if you want EU-only processing on every plan rather than a Pro-tier setting, or if a €44/month floor for ~500 pages prices out your project. We do UK/EU invoices, excellently and privately — that focus is the product.
Run your own invoice through the live demo and judge the fields yourself — no account, nothing you upload is ever stored. Then 200 pages free every month, no card.
